Name: Mel Mitchell
Role at MI Metals: Environmental, Health and Safety Director

Year Started at MI Metals: 2004

Years In Aluminum Extrusion Industry: 25

Prior experiences that have shaped you: Before joining MI Metals, I spent 20 years in the US Air Force (USAF) working in several positions within civil engineering, learning heavy equipment, horizontal structures, HVAC, boiler operations, and more. This position provided me with numerous opportunities to develop and exercise leadership, as well as mechanical skills. In 2000, I worked as the NCOIC of Wing Safety for Maxwell Air Force Base. Following retirement from the USAF, I began working as an environmental, health and safety professional for an aluminum extruder in Alabama and then joined MI Metals in 2004.

Current responsibilities: As the environmental, health and safety director, I am responsible for corporate environmental and safety compliance and risk management across all facilities in MI Metals.

What you love about MI or Aluminum Extrusion industry: MI Metals is a large extrusion company with a small company, family-feel. The people who run the day-to-day business, around the country, are easy to talk to, understand what is needed and make it happen quickly. Working with great people makes all the difference.
